We look forward to welcoming you to our elegant one bedroom apartment based in the heart of Funchal. This self-contained and fully equipped 4th-floor apartment overlooks the Funchal Municipal Gardens, formerly known as Dona Amelia Garden, where the Convent of St Francis once stood. The garden, in a prime location in the city centre, boasts flora from Madeira and many other parts of the world. The Coat of Arms from the Convent is still on display in the garden. A fountain and pond with fish and birds add to the attraction of this location.
At the centre of the garden is an auditorium where concerts and other cultural events are held during the summer months. All this just outside your window!
If you don't feel like cooking breakfast, just cross the road and visit the numerous restaurants available.
Stepping out the main door of the apartment building and turning right, you will find within a one-block walking distance the Marina, Cathedral, Theatre, Tourist Office, Santa Catarina Gardens, and Blandy's Wine Lodge, alongside many popular restaurants and cafes. At the Marina, you can book your Whale Watching tour. A short walk past the Cathedral brings you to the 'Old Town' where you can see the 'painted doors', visit the art gallery, listen to Fado and enjoy a wide variety of restaurants.
The new waterfront walkway has been completed allowing you to walk from the Old Town along the seafront and out to the Lido area where you can enjoy the many access points to swimming. Or, pick up a bike hire and cycle the route, with a swim and a good lunch at a mid-day stop before cycling back to the apartment to freshen up before enjoying the evening.
To explore Madeira, you could not have chosen a better place to start your trip. A few steps away at the tourist office, or along the sea front on Avenida do Mar, you can book your tourist bus trips, take a yellow cab taxi journey, or catch the local bus service and explore a levada.
Turning left out of the apartment building will take you to the La Vie shopping centre where you will find a supermarket, pharmacy amongst many other quality shops. A short work further along will lead you to the Santa Clara Convent, 16th Century buildings that are still in use for the purpose they were built.
When it's time to check in on the real world scroll through the selection of TV channels and access to free WiFi available in the apartment.
